Dear friend,

I’m so excited to be heading back to Anderson Ranch Arts Center, in Snowmass, Colorado, to teach a 1-week workshop on June 08 – 12, 2020 about my favorite subject: China Painting, Luster, and Cold-Finishing Techniques on ceramics.

There are still a few spots available and it would amazing if you would join me for a week of exploration, play, and exchange of ideas at one of the most respected visual arts programs in the country.

Space is limited, so if you are interested, please sign up ASAP https://www.andersonranch.org/workshop/more-is-more-china-paint-techniques-c0204-20/
or contact Studio Coordinator Louise Deroualle
with questions at 970/924-5050

Cheers, Melanie.

“It is a center, not a school. We’re different.”

“Duerer’s Rhinocerus” Materials: Porcelain, Glaze, China Paint, Gold Luster, Gold Leaf, Gold Powder, Kintsuge Application

China paint, luster, and cold-finishing techniques are used all over the world to finesse and highlight many qualities of the ceramic form. These surface decorations are used for expressing cultural heritage, storytelling, color theory and more. This workshop is designed to marry the ceramic form and imagery, personalize the students’ own ceramics work while exploring new surface decoration techniques. Students indulge in layer after layer of lavish ornamentation and embellishments. Participants may bring up to four of their own glazed functional and/or sculptural ceramic pieces to work on. Commercial glazed ceramic tiles are provided to practice on and decorate.
